For decades, the people who asked too many questions were mocked, dismissed, called paranoid. Then the files came out. The CIA drugged people without consent. Governments quietly planned attacks on their own citizens. Corporations buried proof their products were killing people. Billion-dollar frauds hid in plain sight for years, propped up by smiling executives and forged paperwork. Every story below was once dismissed as “just a conspiracy theory” — until a whistleblower, a leaked file, or a courtroom proved otherwise. Sixty times, the skeptics were right. Here’s exactly what they found, and who tried to bury it.
#1: The CIA’s Secret Drug Experiments, MKUltra
For years, people whispered the CIA was secretly drugging Americans to learn how to control their minds. Some said the agency gave LSD to people who had no idea. Most folks brushed it off as paranoid nonsense. But a pile of papers would change that.
In 1977, a public records request turned up about 20,000 CIA files that had escaped being shredded. They proved the rumors were true. The CIA had drugged people without asking, including prisoners and patients. Congress held hearings, and new rules limited testing on people who hadn’t agreed.
