#22: The Watergate Cover-Up
Five men were caught breaking into Democratic Party offices in 1972, and the White House brushed it off as a “third-rate burglary.” Critics believed President Nixon’s own team was behind it and covering it up. Nixon denied everything. Two young reporters started asking questions.

Helped by a secret source nicknamed “Deep Throat,” Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein tied the break-in to Nixon’s campaign. Then investigators learned Nixon had taped his office. One tape proved he’d directed the cover-up. Facing impeachment, Nixon resigned in 1974, and many aides went to prison.
