#59: The Samsung Political Bribery Scandal
A strange rumor haunted South Korea’s President Park Geun-hye: that she was secretly guided by a friend with no government job, Choi Soon-sil. Some claimed big companies were paying Choi for favors. It sounded like palace gossip. Then a TV station found an abandoned tablet computer.

It showed Choi editing the president’s speeches. Investigators found Samsung heir Lee Jae-yong had given Choi millions, including horses for her daughter, to win government support for a merger. After huge protests, Park was removed from office, and both she and Lee went to prison.
