#11: Marvin Gaye
Hits like “What’s Going On” and “Let’s Get It On” made Marvin Gaye the Prince of Soul and one of Motown’s biggest stars. Then came a messy divorce. As part of the settlement, he had to give his ex-wife money from his next album. His troubles were just beginning.

Owing millions in taxes and support payments, Gaye hit rock bottom and spent time living in a converted bread van in Hawaii. He later moved to Belgium to escape his troubles. There, he made a stunning comeback with “Sexual Healing” in 1982 and won two Grammy Awards.
