#42: TLC
T-Boz, Left Eye, and Chilli made up TLC, the best-selling American girl group of all time. Their 1994 album CrazySexyCool sold over 10 million copies with hits like “Waterfalls” and “Creep.” Fans assumed they were rich. The truth was very different.
In 1995, at the height of their fame, TLC filed for bankruptcy. They said their contract left them with only a tiny share of the money, and they also faced big bills. The move helped them get a better deal, and their next album, FanMail, was another huge hit.
