#45: Billy Joel
“Piano Man” and “Uptown Girl” made Billy Joel one of the best-selling artists in history. For years, he trusted his manager, who was also his former brother-in-law, with his money. Joel was busy making music. He had no idea what was happening behind his back.

In 1989, Joel discovered that his manager had lost or misused tens of millions of his dollars. He sued and won some money back, but not nearly all of it. Joel recovered by touring constantly and later played monthly shows at Madison Square Garden for ten years.
