#59: Buster Keaton
Nicknamed “The Great Stone Face,” Buster Keaton was a silent film genius who did his own dangerous stunts. Classics like The General made him rich enough to build a huge Beverly Hills mansion. In 1928, he signed with a big studio and lost control of his films.

His career sank, heavy drinking took over, and a costly divorce took his mansion and most of his money. Fired by the studio, he filed for bankruptcy in 1934. Keaton slowly recovered by writing jokes for others and appearing on TV, then received an honorary Oscar in 1960.
