#7: Joe Louis
Known as the Brown Bomber, Joe Louis held the heavyweight title for almost 12 years, longer than any boxer in history. He was a true American hero. During World War II, he even donated money from his fights to help the military. That kindness would come back to haunt him.

The IRS said he owed more than $1 million in back taxes, and the interest kept growing every year. Louis returned to the ring well past his prime, then worked as a pro wrestler and later as a greeter at a Las Vegas casino. He never fully escaped the debt.
