#33: Black, Tarry Stool
Black, tar-like stool in dogs can signal digested blood coming from internal bleeding somewhere in the digestive tract. The stool may look unusually dark, sticky, or shiny. Dogs with internal bleeding may also seem weak, tired, pale, or unwilling to eat normally.

Contact a veterinarian as soon as possible if your dog develops black stool. Do not ignore the symptom, even if the dog seems otherwise normal at first. Monitor for vomiting, weakness, pale gums, or collapse. Fast veterinary care is important because internal bleeding can quickly become life-threatening.
