#4: Aggression When Woken Suddenly
A dog startled awake may react defensively before fully understanding what is happening. Some dogs growl, snap, or bite if touched suddenly during sleep, especially older dogs or dogs dealing with pain, anxiety, or hearing problems. The reaction is often instinctive rather than intentional aggression.

Avoid startling sleeping dogs whenever possible. Call their name softly or make gentle noise nearby before touching them. Children should never climb on or wake sleeping dogs suddenly. If sleep-related aggression becomes frequent or severe, consult a veterinarian to rule out pain, sensory loss, or neurological problems.
