53. Nevada Is Sometimes Farther West Than California
When you picture California, you probably imagine it stretching neatly along the West Coast, ending where the Pacific begins. It feels like one of the clearest, easiest shapes to understand. The real shape is far less straightforward than it appears.

Because of the way the coastline bends, parts of Nevada actually extend farther west than some areas of California. You can stand in Nevada and still be farther west than someone in California, completely flipping expectations about where the “West Coast” really is.
