#24: Miss Mississippi, 1959 — Mary Ann Mobley
Mary Ann Mobley became Mississippi’s first Miss America in 1959. Born in Biloxi and raised in Brandon, she was celebrated for her charm and acting ability, which later opened the door to a career in Hollywood. Her natural charisma made her a favorite both on and off stage.

After her reign, Mobley signed with MGM and starred in films and television shows alongside major stars, including Elvis Presley. Her success marked the beginning of a tradition, as Mississippi went on to produce several Miss America winners. She remains a beloved icon of the state’s pageant history.
