Leap of Faith
In the vibrant year of 1965, Janis Joplin, armed with her acoustic guitar, passionately recorded seven enchanting studio tracks. These included her very own creation, “Turtle Blues,” and a riveting alternate rendition of Buffy Sainte-Marie’s “Cod’ine”. Fortunately for music lovers, these demo tracks weren’t lost to time. In 1995, James Gurley masterfully resurrected and released them, giving us a fresh album that echoes the raw talent of Janis from yesteryears.

In the summer of ’66, Janis Joplin’s world was about to spin on its axis. A secretary? Hardly! Her gritty, soul-drenched, blues-infused vocals, and commanding mezzo-soprano range, bewitched the psychedelic rockers of San Francisco’s Big Brother and the Holding Company. They were the toast of the Haight-Ashbury hippie scene. On June 4th, Joplin hitched her star to their wagon, marking her first steps towards global stardom.
