#9: He Wasn’t Always Easy to Work With
Bringing Mary Poppins to the screen was one of Walt’s proudest achievements, but it came with behind-the-scenes tension. Author P.L. Travers disliked the animated sequences and many script changes, feeling Disney had softened and Americanized her character.

Although Travers attended the film’s premiere, she wept in disappointment rather than joy. Walt, for his part, never planned to work with her again. Decades later, the film Saving Mr. Banks dramatized their creative clash. It offered audiences a glimpse into the stubbornness and strong wills that sometimes collided behind Disney’s warm public smile and the carefully crafted family-friendly image.
