#21: Air India Flight 182 (1985)
Flying from Montreal to London, a Boeing 747 exploded over the Atlantic off the coast of Ireland. A bomb hidden in luggage tore the plane apart at 31,000 feet. All 329 people onboard were killed, making it the deadliest terrorist attack involving aviation before September 11.

The bombing was linked to Sikh extremists based in Canada. Investigations exposed serious security lapses, leading to sweeping reforms in baggage screening and intelligence sharing. For Canada, Flight 182 remains the worst mass murder in its history, and a painful reminder of the global reach of terrorism.
