#24: Garuda Indonesia Flight 152 (1997)
Flying into Medan, Indonesia, an Airbus A300 was given confusing instructions from air traffic control. In poor visibility, the crew descended on the wrong heading, straight into a forested hillside. The impact destroyed the aircraft and killed all 234 people onboard, making it Indonesia’s deadliest aviation accident.

The crash exposed serious communication issues between controllers and pilots, particularly with language barriers. It also highlighted how quickly poor visibility can overwhelm a crew. Garuda 152 became a case study in the importance of precise instructions and clear English as the global standard for aviation control.
