#32: British Airtours Flight 28M (1985)
During takeoff from Manchester, the Boeing 737 suffered an engine failure that punctured a fuel tank, causing fire to spread rapidly through the cabin. Though the plane stopped on the runway, toxic smoke filled the fuselage before everyone could escape. Fifty-five passengers lost their lives in the disaster.

The accident revealed how quickly fire and smoke can overwhelm passengers, even on the ground. It led to major improvements in evacuation procedures, fire-resistant materials, and clearer cabin layouts. Flight 28M became one of the most important case studies for survivability in aviation emergencies.
