The Complicated Life of Hollywood Star Alec Baldwin

In 2008, Baldwin published A Promise to Ourselves, a book focused on divorce, custody, and the family court system. The book grew directly out of his long legal fight with Kim Basinger over access to Ireland, making it one of his most personal public projects.

In it, he described the custody battle as emotionally draining, financially punishing, and deeply damaging to family relationships. Rather than leaving the conflict behind, Baldwin turned it into a public argument about the system itself.
