#43: He Examined Divorce and Reinvention in the 1988 Film A New Life
In 1988, Alda wrote, directed, and starred in A New Life, a comedy about divorce, dating, and starting over in middle age. The film paired him with Ann-Margret as two people trying to rebuild after their marriages end.

The project reflected his continued interest in adult relationships rather than simple romantic fantasy. It also showed how much of his post-MASH* work centered on change, compromise, and the awkward process of finding a new identity.
