#45: He Continued Making his Own Films with 1990’s Betsy’s Wedding
In 1990, Alda wrote, directed, and starred in Betsy’s Wedding, a comedy about a father overwhelmed by the costs, expectations, and complications of his daughter’s wedding. The cast included Molly Ringwald, Madeline Kahn, and Joe Pesci.

The film continued his run of self-generated projects, but the response was more mixed than some of his earlier work. Alda was still trying to control his creative path after MASH*, even when the results were less certain.
