#50: He Earned an Oscar Nomination for Scorsese’s The Aviator
In 2004, Alda appeared as Senator Ralph Owen Brewster in Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator. The film followed Howard Hughes, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, and Brewster became one of the political figures pressuring him.

The role gave Alda one of the biggest film honors of his career: an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. After decades on television and stage, he had reached a new level of film recognition.
