#18: South Dakota
Jobs Gained: 5.9%
Jobs Lost: 6.0%
South Dakota was very close to balanced, with plenty of jobs being created. New work can come from health care, finance, agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and small businesses serving growing towns and cities like Sioux Falls and Rapid City.

But jobs were disappearing at a slightly higher rate. Some rural areas can struggle to keep workers and employers, while agriculture and seasonal tourism can bring ups and downs. South Dakota still looked steady overall, but the losses were just a bit stronger here.
