The States Where Jobs Are Disappearing and Where They’re Moving to Instead

Montana had high job movement on both sides. New jobs can come from tourism, outdoor recreation, health care, construction, agriculture, energy, and small businesses serving growing towns and popular travel areas.

But Montana’s job market can also be uneven. Seasonal tourism, rural hiring challenges, high housing costs in some areas, and shifts in resource-based work can all lead to job losses. The state was creating jobs, but the losses were even stronger in this round.
