It’s always interesting to learn about the extreme lengths actors will go to get into a role. Robert De Niro embodied the definition of “method acting” in his role as Max Cady in Cape Fear. He even went so far as to alter his teeth for the role! He allegedly paid a dentist $5,000 to mess up his teeth.

To make himself look more menacing, Robert requested the dentist grind down his teeth, as well as sharpen and deform them. After filming, Robert paid the dentist another $20,000 to fully repair his teeth to their former glory. He probably could have worn prosthetics to achieve the same effect, but would he have gotten an Oscar nomination? Who’s to say.
