#13: Pocahontas’ Husband, Kocom
Kocom, Pocahontas’ husband, belonged to her broader tribal network and was the brother of a nearby village chief named Japasaw. After their marriage, the couple settled in Japasaw’s village, located close to Jamestown, where English colonists had established their settlement.

There, Pocahontas gave birth to a daughter, an often overlooked part of her life that predates her capture and relocation. Interestingly, Kocoum (as he was named in the Disney film) does appear in the animated version, though reimagined as a grim and emotionless suitor Pocahontas rejects. In reality, their union was legitimate and had been part of her life before the myth took hold.
