A lot of times, people can fall into patterns of behavior because they feel that no one believes in them. If no one thinks they’re capable of something, why even try? That was the situation when this storyteller offered tutoring lessons to a classmate that was struggling in school. This student was great on the high school basketball team but was failing a lot of his classes.
Tutoring this student was challenging, because he didn’t seem to care about his grades or graduating from high school. Then, one day, our storyteller got real with him. He told the student that he could turn his life around if he approached school with the same determination and dedication that he poured into basketball. Seven months later, they both graduated! The student said the reason he succeeded was that our storyteller believed in him when no one else did.
