#11: Human Impacts
Nowadays, many of us avoid using plastic bags when we go grocery shopping. But did you know that plastic bags were originally marketed as a way to help the environment?! It’s true. Plastic grocery bags were introduced in the late 90s as a way to cut back on paper bag use. Deforestation was a huge issue, and plastic bags were intended to be the solution.

How wrong we were. Plastic bags have a detrimental effect on the environment. They’re unrecyclable, and many people just end up throwing them away. Then, they end up in those giant trash islands in the middle of the ocean. Great.
