Someone shared this vintage dollar bill that they found while cleaning their grandmother’s house. It looks much different than the dollar bills we see circulating today. That’s because it’s from 1917. This dollar is in incredible shape for a bill that’s over a century old! This vintage dollar still features a portrait of George Washington, but so many other things are different. 

This 1917 dollar note has quite an elaborate design. The dramatic vignette in the upper right-hand corner of the bill depicts Christopher Columbus and his crew “discovering” America. Columbus looks quite heroic as his adoring crew surrounds him. It’s interesting to think that Columbus was deemed such an important historical figure in the US that they decided to put him on the country’s currency.
