Hollywood’s Golden Age sold audiences a carefully constructed fantasy — polished romances, perfect marriages, and stars who seemed to exist only on screen. Behind the studio-controlled images, however, many of Old Hollywood’s most recognizable faces lived private lives far removed from the roles they played. Bound by morality clauses, censorship, and rigid social expectations, LGBT actors often concealed their identities to survive in the industry. Some lived openly within trusted circles, others entered carefully arranged marriages, and many carried their truths quietly until long after the cameras stopped rolling.
